Program Overview

The Ambulatory Nurse Resident Program at UW Health is a 12-month program designed to support new graduate nurses in transitioning into practice. The program provides a comprehensive orientation, mentoring, and clinical expertise to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in twice-monthly nurse resident classes with a cohort of peers
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to provide patient care across all stages of wellness, prevention, acute and chronic illness, and end-of-life
  • Perform telephone triage, telehealth opportunities, medication administration, treatments, testing, patient/family education, and plan of care for high volumes of patients
  • Develop a high degree of independence and critical thinking in the role

Education and Licensure

Minimum requirements include an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN or BAN), or Master Degree in Nursing (MSN) completed within the previous 12 months. A Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin and Basic Life Support/CPR certification are also required.
