Position Overview

LMI is in search of a Software Solutions Engineer to assist in the design, development, testing, deployment, and upkeep of a critical platform that supports a vital Army Data Layer (ADL). This position will contribute to a team focused on creating the foundational architecture that will evolve into the next generation of the Army Data Platform. The Software Solutions Engineer will collaborate with Government Leaders, solution architects, data custodians, data stewards, process analysts, and data scientists to comprehend requirements and devise solutions that align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a master-agent framework to facilitate ETL processes.
  • Design and implement APIs adhering to REST best practices.
  • Create and execute automated testing protocols.
  • Generate and maintain documentation that supports platform sustainability.
  • Engage in infrastructure assessments to identify best practices and areas for enhancement.
  • Adhere to established practices and project guidelines, including source code management, automated testing, deployment strategies, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Participate in requirements gathering and design workshops to determine optimal solution specifications.
  • Architect and develop applications that support both internal and external communications.
  • Collaborate with diverse technical teams to construct a service-oriented architecture that scales and innovates.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in developing production applications.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) or on-premises data centers.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Ability to comprehend various system-to-system interface types and design solutions across both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with ETL concepts and solutions, particularly in big data engineering, including experience with Apache Spark.
  • Thorough understanding of relational database systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.
  • Experience with non-relational databases like MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.
  • Web development experience (JavaScript, JSON, HTML, CSS).
  • Experience with streaming and queuing frameworks such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.
  • Possession of an active Secret Clearance.

Preferred

  • Experience with Palantir.
  • Analytical mindset – data-driven and adept at problem-solving, especially in utilizing platform metadata or logging data to troubleshoot issues reported by platform users regarding system functionality or data pipelines.
  • Effective communicator – capable of conveying messages clearly, particularly in translating functional requirements into technical solutions and coordinating between technical and non-technical teams.
  • Self-motivated and proactive – able to perform tasks with minimal supervision, embrace new methodologies, and learn and apply new concepts.
  • Attention to detail – committed to the rigor and completeness of work output.
