Position Overview
LMI is on the lookout for a Software Solutions Engineer to assist in the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of a robust platform that underpins a vital Army Data Layer (ADL). This position is integral to a team that is establishing the foundational architecture for the next generation of the Army Data Platform. The Software Solutions Engineer will collaborate with Government Leads, solution architects, data owners, data stewards, process analysts, and data scientists to gather requirements and create solutions that align with business objectives. The work arrangement currently supports remote work, transitioning to a hybrid model involving both remote and client site engagements.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop a master-agent architecture to support ETL pipelines.
- Design and implement APIs adhering to REST best practices.
- Create and execute automated testing protocols.
- Produce and maintain documentation to facilitate platform upkeep.
- Engage in infrastructure assessments to identify best practices and improvement opportunities.
- Adhere to established practices and project guidelines, including source code management, automated testing, deployment strategies, and thorough documentation.
- Participate in requirements gathering and design sessions to establish optimal solution requirements.
- Architect and develop applications that support both internal and external communications.
- Collaborate with diverse technical teams to construct a service-oriented architecture that scales and innovates.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in developing production-level applications.
- Experience with cloud services (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) or internal data centers.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Ability to comprehend various system-to-system interfaces and design solutions across both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Familiarity with ETL methodologies, particularly in big data engineering, including experience with Apache Spark.
- Comprehensive understanding of relational database systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with non-relational databases like MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
- Web development experience, including JavaScript, JSON, HTML, and CSS.
- Familiarity with streaming and queuing frameworks such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
- Possession of an active Secret Clearance.
Preferred
- Experience with Palantir technologies.
- Analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to problem-solving, particularly in utilizing platform metadata or logging data to address issues raised by platform users regarding system functionality or data pipelines.
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively conveying messages, especially in translating functional requirements into technical solutions and coordinating across technical and non-technical teams.
- Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently, embrace new methodologies, and learn and apply new concepts.
- Attention to detail, ensuring thoroughness and completeness in work output.
