Position Overview:

The Building Automation Systems Specialist will be responsible for the installation and programming of Direct Digital Controllers (DDC). This role includes commissioning, conducting Point to Point verification, troubleshooting, and validating DDC network communications for both new construction and retrofit projects. The specialist will assist in the design of graphical displays in alignment with the guidelines set by the System Development Team, Engineering, and Project Management.

Key responsibilities include inspecting and validating systems, aiding in panel construction, adhering to installation protocols as directed by onsite representatives, and executing system commissioning. The role requires interpreting blueprints, building schematics, and DDC control diagrams, as well as attending site meetings and providing daily updates to the Project Manager.

University Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is a recognized distributor and installer of Distech products, utilizing the Tridium Niagara Platform alongside MS/TP and BACnet over IP protocols. Distech also offers a comprehensive range of LonWorks controllers.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Program databases for all supported systems to align with specified operational sequences and manufacturer recommendations, adhering to company standards and control drawings.
  2. Conduct calibration and check-out of control systems Point to Point, ensuring compliance with operational sequences and commissioning requirements in a timely manner.
  3. Collaborate with the graphics coordinator to deliver graphical user interfaces as required for projects based on design and contractual obligations.
  4. Provide customer support regarding building/system operations and maintenance of temperature control systems.
  5. Offer feedback to the Controls engineer to facilitate the creation of as-built drawings.
  6. Effectively manage time to ensure timely completion of assignments within budget constraints.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in DDC/System Programming.
  • Excellent interactive and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management abilities.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications.
  • Able to interface effectively with UMC teams, clients, engineers, and property managers.
  • Capable of working independently and without supervision.
  • Familiarity with ACAD/Visio software.

Experience and Credentials:

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the Building Automation Industry.
  • Experience with HVAC and/or Mechanical systems.
  • Training and certification in electrical theory and/or electronics.
  • Preferred experience with Tridium/Niagara and Distech.
  • Computer and networking skills are advantageous.

Must maintain a valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
