Secondary Autism Support Assistant

Position Overview:

The primary function of an Autism Support Assistant in a secondary educational setting is diverse and essential in fostering the academic and social growth of students with autism.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assisting the classroom teacher in maintaining an organized and engaging learning environment.
  • Employing various techniques to motivate students and promote positive behavior.
  • Working closely with students with ASD, offering individualized support and modifying educational resources to suit their requirements.
  • Tracking and documenting students' progress, adjusting support methods as necessary.
  • Helping to develop and execute personalized education plans tailored to students' unique needs.
  • Collaborating with fellow educators to create and implement effective support strategies.

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in supporting children with ASD.
  • Relevant certifications or training in special education (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Possession of an updated CV covering the last ten years, excluding any unexplained gaps, and an enhanced DBS registered with the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Exhibiting patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to understanding and addressing the diverse needs of learners.

Please note that this position necessitates a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful candidates must meet all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS registered with the update service or a willingness to apply for a new one.
