Job Description

As a Community Engagement Specialist at In Our Own Voices, Inc., you will play a vital role in promoting the health, wellness, and overall quality of life for LGBTQ+ individuals, with a focus on people of color. Your primary responsibility will be to provide culturally competent outreach, education, and HIV and HCV testing services to difficult-to-reach populations, including Women who have Sex with Women (WSW), Young Men who have Sex with Men (YMSM), and Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary (TGNCNB) individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage with target populations.
  • Provide HIV and HCV testing and counseling services, as well as education on prevention and treatment options.
  • Collaborate with community partners to build relationships and enhance outreach efforts.
  • Organize and participate in community events, health fairs, and workshops to promote awareness and education.
  • Conduct follow-up with clients to ensure linkage to care and support services.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of outreach activities, testing, and client interactions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with LGBTQ+ communities, particularly with Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary (TGNCNB) individuals.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the HIV field, including testing and counseling services.
  • Minimum of one year of human services experience, including outreach, education, or case management.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Comfortable providing education or outreach in public venues, such as bars, local colleges, beauty salons, and barbershops.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the target populations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field, such as public health or social work.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations or non-profits.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and concerns, particularly within communities of color.
  • Ability to create and deliver effective educational content tailored to diverse audiences.
