Join the South Coast Region team as an Aboriginal Engagement Coordinator

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Albany, Western Australia. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Aboriginal Engagement, Planning and Lands Branch to provide strategic and regional leadership for the interface between the department and the Regional Aboriginal Corporations (RACs).

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Ensuring effective working relationships are developed and maintained with RACs to establish Cooperative Management Committees and implement Cooperative Management Agreements and Joint Management Agreements.
  • Providing Aboriginal engagement in advising and informing high-level strategic policy associated with the management of all conservation estate within the ILUA Agreement Area.
  • Ensuring Noongar interests regarding cultural and heritage values, economic development, employment strategies, and customary activities and land access are promoted.
  • Developing and maintaining successful strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and other interest groups.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Understanding of and experience in working successfully with traditional owners to deliver their land and cultural heritage management aspirations and goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management skills and the ability to research and apply knowledge to protect and conserve Traditional Owner heritage and culture.
  • Highly developed oral communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in developing and maintaining successful strategic partnerships.
  • High-level written communication skills, including public presentation skills and the ability to use computer software for report writing and data analysis.

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency status.
