Job Summary

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing educational and clinical services to children with significant emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans to meet established curriculum guidelines and individual student needs.
  • Document student progress, including grading papers, workbooks, class participation, homework, etc., and maintain files related to student work as necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention and ensure the safety of all children, maintaining the therapeutic structure and organization of the setting.
  • Participate in Treatment Teams to develop Individual Educational Plans for students, establishing goals for educational development and behavior management.
  • Communicate with parents, residential counselors, and other team members as necessary to communicate problems and progress.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field, with Standard Professional certification in Special Education by the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) within 6 months of hire.
  • Effective teaching skills, including knowledge of specific grade level or content area, familiarity with curriculum guidelines, and knowledge of special education strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to accurately assess and document information for IEPs, incident reports, and Behavior Management documents.
