Role Summary
As a Youth Program Support Specialist at Buckner International, you will contribute to our mission by assisting in the effective management of various children's programs, including summer camps, after-school initiatives, educational trips, tutoring sessions, and weekend activities. Your role will involve being a positive influence, providing guidance, supervision, and nurturing support while fostering an environment of stability and growth.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children through the following tasks:
- Create a nurturing environment that promotes self-esteem, trust, and respect for all individuals. Stay attentive to the physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational development of the children in your care, ensuring that the setting is age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and allows for personal expression.
- Engage with youth in character-building activities and community service projects.
- Maintain a constructive attitude when interacting with children, parents, visitors, and colleagues.
- Communicate any special needs or concerns regarding individual children to your supervisor.
- Support the established programs for children, ensuring a structured daily plan that incorporates recreation, responsibility, and spiritual growth.
- Stay aware of the children's needs and be flexible in adapting programs as necessary. Implement changes as directed.
- Assist children with homework, arts and crafts, and recreational activities.
- Provide safe transportation for children as required.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions, including CPR and First Aid certification.
Qualifications for Success
To excel in this role and be a valuable addition to our organization, you should possess the following:
- A High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) is required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications are necessary; attendance at training sessions is mandatory.
- Ability to operate assigned vehicles or personal vehicles legally, with proof of liability insurance, and eligibility for coverage under Buckner's insurance policy. Must be at least 21 years old to drive on behalf of Buckner.
- A genuine desire to inspire hope in others, with a friendly demeanor and eagerness to learn being more important than prior experience.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the essential qualifications, the following attributes would be advantageous:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or at least 9 college credits in child development.
- Previous experience working directly with children in a licensed childcare environment or similar context.
- A commitment to personal and professional development to enhance program services.
- A willingness to foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and the community.
