Job Summary:

Fort Myer Construction Corporation is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for operating specialized vehicles and earth movers to move earth, equipment, tools, and materials safely into place.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate a variety of equipment once certified
Perform daily pre-shift vehicle and equipment inspections
Operate equipment in close proximity to workers and underground utilities
Perform daily safety, maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment
Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading
Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging (test pitting)
Perform minor servicing and refer major problems to the supervisor
Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards
Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications
Knowledge of weight requirements of loads
Lift and move materials and objects and operate according to signals from others
Adapt to new and different job sites and team members
Dig, spread, and level dirt, gravel, or sand
Adhere to all safety policies

Requirements:

Must have an operator's license in DC
Must possess a valid unrestricted driver's license
Minimum of two (2) years of experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must have physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment
Manage emergency situations, work pressure, and stress
Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner

Working Conditions:

This job may require you to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends. You must be able to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, twist, and climb heavy equipment several times throughout the day. You must also be able to sit for extended periods of time and perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease, and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
