About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Prisma Health. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager/In-Charge Technologist and Medical Director, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform a variety of technical procedures that require a high degree of independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of radionuclides for the diagnosis and therapy of disease in humans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive patients and provide proper care during performance of clinical procedures
  • Verify patient identification and review orders for procedure to be performed
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Obtain pertinent patient history and check for procedural contradictions
  • Maintain and operate auxiliary equipment necessary to procedure
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families
  • Prepare patients for procedures
  • Select and administer the proper radionuclide/medication by the proper route and in the appropriate dosage
  • Prepare proper instruments, computers, and imaging protocols as indicated by departmental procedure manuals
  • Understand and implement ALARA measures in performance of clinical duties
  • Evaluate image appearance and perform additional views as required
  • Process and evaluate computer-generated data
  • Obtain samples for non-imaging studies
  • Prepare and administer interventional pharmacologic agents as directed by protocol
  • Maintain sterile technique as required
  • Perform imaging, non-imaging, function studies, and therapeutic exams according to established departmental protocols

Accountabilities

  • Radiopharmaceutical Responsibilities
    • Follows correct procedures for receipt and return of radioactive materials
    • Understands and implements ALARA measures while performing radio pharmacy duties
    • Maintains accurate records of doses distributed to patients
  • Archiving Accountabilities
    • Maintain accurate records pertaining to exams performed
    • Operates the PACS system properly and verifies study prior to archiving
  • Administrative Accountabilities
    • Acquires orders and checks for appropriate clinical information
    • Charges procedures and supplies in compliance with governing regulations
  • Environmental Accountabilities
    • Maintains a neat, clean, organized work environment
    • Stock work area with linens/supplies as needed
  • Communication Accountabilities
    • Seeks to promote intra, inter, and external communications
    • Maintains ethical standards of relationships and communications
  • Instrumentation Accountabilities
    • Perform and evaluate routine quality on all instrumentation
    • Determine operational status and timely calibration of all survey instruments
  • Radiation Safety Accountabilities
    • Consistent use of personal radiation monitoring devices
    • Proper storage of personal monitoring devices
  • Proctorship Responsibilities
    • Instruct students in methodology of nuclear medicine procedures
    • Closely supervise activity of students assigned to nuclear medicine department

Requirements

  • Certification Program: Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine technology school
  • 1-year Nuclear Medicine experience
  • ARRT(N) or NMTCB registry with five years' experience in nuclear medicine
  • CPR and ARRT(N) registered and/or NMTCB registered
  • SCSQRSA License

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT in Radiology
  • Experience on Philips equipment
  • Spect/CT experience
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
  • Proficient computer skills (database)
  • Data entry
  • Mathematical skills
  • Strong background in physics/chemistry
  • Radiation Safety equipment
