The Adult Mentor will play a crucial role in supporting the Youth Empowerment and Violence Prevention (YEVP) Manager and Family Care Manager to achieve program objectives through the Community Healing Initiative model. The mentor will provide guidance to Latino males aged 18 to 30 who may have experienced gang involvement or are at risk of re-offending. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with the Program Manager and Family Care Manager to align with the La Cultura Cura: Joven Noble Curriculum.
- Assisting in the implementation of related curricula.
- Working effectively with partner agencies and community justice staff.
- Applying the Community Healing Initiative Model in client interactions.
- Conducting weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions and support groups.
- Facilitating client engagement in community activities, life skills workshops, and educational pursuits.
- Coordinating wraparound services with the Care Manager.
- Building meaningful relationships with clients through a strengths-based and culturally informed approach.
- Providing support in areas such as identity development, health, education, and financial literacy.
- Understanding issues related to substance abuse, mental health, and adolescent development.
- Advocating for client needs and maintaining effective communication with law enforcement and probation officers.
- Participating in regular case consultations with the Family Care Manager.
- Maintaining confidentiality and documenting client progress.
- Contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Completing additional tasks as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in social work with youth and families, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Knowledge of social services, education, and human services systems.
- Proficient in both Spanish and English, with strong communication skills.
- Ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
- Proven time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
- Flexibility to work remotely and in the community as needed.
- Evening and weekend availability may be required.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Ability to work in various environments, including community settings.
