Job Description

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our System Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University.

About the Role

The successful candidate will contribute to the design and deployment of Research and Development SONAR systems, working closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support small, interdisciplinary teams in the design and development of complex systems
  • Perform system and electrical engineering roles in circuit design, including system and circuit levels of performance analysis, qualification, and testing
  • Create system level functional and electrical circuit diagrams, models, and simulations
  • Design and develop low noise, low power, high efficiency electronics with emphasis on quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance
  • Lead and perform electronic CAD work, including responsibilities for overseeing all phases of schematic and PCB designs, directing BOM management and transfer to fabrication services
  • Develop system level and inter-disciplinary requirements documents, including performance requirements, test and validation plans, and specifications
Requirements

Minimally requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline plus 5 years' related experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level positions. A Master's Degree is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Embedded firmware programming skills are highly desirable and a big plus.

Working Location

The working location will be on-site in State College, PA.
