Job Title: Health Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. As a Health Physicist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our employees, the public, and the environment by providing expert advice on radiation protection and health physics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide field and laboratory support for the Radiological Protection Program and our customers in Nuclear Waste Services and Project Management organization.
  • Plan, implement, and supervise radiation protection activities for work with ionizing radiation to prevent or minimize adverse effects to onsite personnel, the surrounding public, and the environment while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Propose and conduct research and development projects in applied health physics to improve the radiological protection program.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of health physics and radiation protection theory and practice, the measurement and analysis of ionizing radiation and radioactivity, radiation protection standards, emergency response, and decontamination and disposal procedures are required.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art detection and quantification instrumentation and spectrometric techniques.
  • Experience with shielding design techniques, dose assessment methodologies, effects of radiation on tissues, nuclear and atomic physics research with radionuclides, ALARA principles and experimental techniques are required.
  • Proven oral and written skills to effectively communicate problems and solutions to works and management.
  • Ability to make judgments and decisions in emergency situations and to maintain interpersonal relations are essential, apply health physics principles to the operational demands of a research and development organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of MARSSIM and experience in supporting D&D projects as a health physicist.
  • CHP certification
