Position Overview:

This role is integral to the operations of the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The individual in this capacity will represent International SOS and deliver essential perfusion services as outlined below.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Cardio-Thoracic service during surgical interventions such as by-pass surgeries and valve replacements.
  • Manage the preparation and operation of heart-lung machines and pumps, ensuring a sterile environment to maintain patient blood volume and prevent complications.
  • Assemble necessary supplies and equipment to facilitate extra corporeal circulation for patients experiencing cardiac arrest or failure.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of VA-owned perfusion equipment, including heart-lung machines, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and centrifugal ventricular assist devices.
  • Coordinate and document scheduled preventative maintenance and repair for VA-owned equipment.
  • Ensure availability of a minimum of four complete sets of supplies for open-heart procedures at all times.
  • Set up and operate pumps for various surgical procedures beyond open-heart cases.
  • Document surgical case details, including procedure duration and blood administration for anesthesiology, and manage the disposal of materials post-procedure.

Qualifications:
  • Possession of a full and unrestricted license to practice in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Board certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Active certification as a Perfusionist and a valid DEA License.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in areas such as open-heart surgery, heart-lung machine operation, membrane oxygenation, and intra-aortic balloon pumping.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Educational Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited Allied Health Education Program in Perfusion Technology is essential. Candidates must possess a degree in perfusion from a CAAHEP-accredited program in the United States or Canada, or a post-baccalaureate certificate in perfusion.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves prolonged periods of sitting and standing, with the potential for bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Additional Qualifications:
Applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents and are required to relocate for the duration of the contract. Possession of VA Public Trust Clearance is mandatory.

Compensation:
The pay range for this position is competitive, with a minimum of $72.00 and a maximum of $93.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is also available, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a 401k plan and paid time off.
