Position Overview:

Bowhead is in search of a Senior RF Engineer to contribute to the High Power Microwave (HPM) Effects, Modeling and Simulation (M&S), and Cybersecurity Branch. This branch is recognized as the primary organization dedicated to the lethality, effects, and modeling of HPM technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior RF Engineer will function as a scientist/engineer tasked with advancing HPM technology through experimental work and statistical analysis of target vulnerabilities. The selected candidate will spearhead HPM testing, experiment design, and data collection. This role will involve collaboration with technical personnel from various external entities to identify challenges, propose modifications, and formulate comprehensive solutions for HPM systems. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for delivering presentations during test reviews and technical briefings.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Formulating requirements, designing, and executing tests to support HPM systems.
  • Designing, constructing, testing, and analyzing HPM components and associated systems.
  • Providing subject matter expertise (SME) technical support for ongoing projects.
  • Assisting in the development of experimental designs and data analysis for diverse HPM testing.
  • Creating test reviews, technical briefs, and progress reports for leadership.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related field is required; ABET accreditation is preferred.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving requirements.
  • Capability to lead advanced technology development initiatives in Electronics, Electromagnetics, or Directed Energy.
  • Skill in integrating and coordinating technical efforts across teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for executing professional scientific/engineering tasks.
  • Experience in developing technical briefs.

Desired Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Experience or background in the following areas:
    • Electromagnetic (EM) Theory
    • Radio Frequency Design or High Power RF Design
    • RF Circuit Design and Evaluation
    • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) considerations (Grounding, Shielding, etc.)
    • RF/HPM test chambers and diagnostics (GTEM, Reverberation, Anechoic, etc.)
  • Familiarity with HPM system design, including components and system development (Vacuum Electronics, high power transmission lines, solid-state switching, high power antennas, etc.).
  • Experience in Pulsed Power system design, development, testing, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of Radio Frequency data acquisition and analysis techniques.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Experience with computational tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, or Python for physics simulations.

Security Clearance Requirements: A current security clearance at the Secret level is mandatory. US Citizenship is required for obtaining Secret clearance.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to twist, bend, and squat periodically.
