Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is tasked with the collection of patient samples for laboratory analysis.

This role involves adhering to established protocols for the safe handling of blood, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials, accurately documenting laboratory tests, ensuring quality control and assurance, assisting physicians during procedures and examinations as needed, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of reagents and supplies.


Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold laboratory procedures, equipment, and processes to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- Ensure thorough review of all laboratory reports, noting relevant values.
- Follow established protocols for the safe handling of blood, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials.
- Conduct laboratory tests and operate automated equipment in accordance with the procedure manual.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory tests and results as outlined in the policy and procedures manual.
- Comply with CLIA regulations.
- Execute quality control procedures to guarantee the precision of clinical data.
- Collaborate with medical staff and assist physicians during procedures and examinations as required.
- Ensure adequate inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations.
- Understand Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), including test ordering, rejection, and result review and approval.

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to perform clean venipuncture and capillary collections.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices.

Understanding of quality control protocols, including the use of control materials and documentation of QC results and corrective actions.

- Awareness of ongoing quality assurance activities and documentation of any quality breaches.
- Capability to perform routine maintenance on automated laboratory equipment.

Ability to identify issues that may negatively impact test performance or reporting and take corrective actions or notify the Director or Manager immediately.

- Competence in documenting all corrective measures taken when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
- Proficient in reading and comprehending instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to follow directions and effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group settings with patients and colleagues.
- Skill in building rapport with patients to provide exceptional direct patient care.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong patient service orientation.

Education and Experience:
- Current State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist License required.
- Preferred: Hematology experience with a minimum of one year in a laboratory setting.
- Required: Associate Degree in Applied Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, or Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Willingness to travel to satellite clinics as necessary.
