Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. As a key member of our Central Service department, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Process and sterilize medical instruments and equipment to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Retrieve, set up, test, and distribute instruments and equipment from the OR and L&D departments.
  • Assemble, wrap, and sterilize house, general, and specialty trays.
  • Operate, document, and maintain reprocessing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manage inventory levels and set up exchange carts, par level carts, case carts, and specialty carts.
  • Conduct in-stock inventory management to ensure timely restocking of supplies.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Nationally accredited central service exam for central services and hold and maintain one of the following credentials: certified registered central service technical credential, certified sterile process and distribution technician credential, or a substantially equivalent credential.
  • Six months experience in processing/sterilization required.
  • Completion of ten hours of CEU credits per year beginning January 1 through December 31.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential.
  • Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corp.
  • Completion of fifteen hours of continuing education annually to remain qualified to practice as a surgical technologist.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a medium level of stress. The ability to concentrate on tasks under disruptive conditions is essential.
