Transportation Manager Role Overview

A Logistics Operations Director will be responsible for overseeing the Transportation department, ensuring a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost. This role involves leading a team of drivers and associates, providing coaching and training, and driving efficient operations through personnel management.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution, as well as one year of experience overseeing a workforce. Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills are required, along with knowledge of DOT requirements and familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.

Salary and Benefits:
The estimated salary range for this position is $55,000-$90,000 annually, depending on relevant experience and education. The role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus. Additional benefits include health insurance, pre-tax spending accounts, retirement benefits, paid time off, short-term and long-term disability, employee stock purchase plan, and life insurance.

Responsibilities:
This position involves leading a team of union and non-union drivers, conducting safety and driver meetings, investigating accidents, and maintaining driver qualification files. The Logistics Operations Director will also be responsible for monitoring production goals, anticipating and troubleshooting problems with deliveries, and devising cost-effective solutions. Additionally, they will identify and stop waste, improve processes, and effectively schedule working shifts. This role requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to interpret financial and operational data.

Work Environment:
The Logistics Operations Director may spend a significant amount of time on the road, exposed to noise and vibration levels higher than those typically experienced in passenger cars. They will also spend time in an office working on a computer, using tools such as Microsoft Excel to manage tasks and schedules.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, with a college degree preferred. They should be able to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, driving, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing/balancing, stoooping/squatting, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulder level, twisting, grasping objects, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity.
