POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Advancement Officer is tasked with formulating and implementing extensive fundraising strategies that align with the organization’s mission and objectives. This role encompasses leadership and oversight of all fundraising efforts, donor engagement, marketing, community outreach, and advancement projects. The ideal candidate possesses a profound commitment to enhancing organizational outcomes and brings a wealth of expertise to elevate fundraising through diverse methodologies. Exceptional communication skills, business insight, data analysis capabilities, and superior consultative and problem-solving skills are essential. The candidate must be adept at collaborating with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders and capable of transcending cultural boundaries to forge and sustain robust working relationships that contribute to organizational success. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy, requiring initiative and interpersonal skills while fostering a culture of inclusion, operational excellence, integrity, compassion, teamwork, and a commitment to achieving the organization’s goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Formulate and execute strategic fundraising initiatives to meet annual revenue objectives and ensure long-term financial viability.

2. Build and nurture relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and other significant stakeholders to secure philanthropic contributions.

3. Direct capital campaigns, annual giving efforts, and various fundraising initiatives, including prospect research, solicitation strategies, and donor acknowledgment.

4. Provide visionary leadership and guidance to the advancement team, encompassing recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.

5. Collaborate with organizational leadership, board members, volunteers, and staff to align fundraising activities with organizational priorities and programs.

6. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborations to broaden fundraising opportunities and engage new donor demographics.

7. Develop and oversee the advancement budget, ensuring effective resource allocation and alignment with fundraising objectives.

8. Supervise the creation of communication and marketing materials to bolster fundraising efforts, including appeals, newsletters, and impact reports.

9. Leverage fundraising data and analytics to monitor performance, assess ROI, and make informed decisions to enhance fundraising strategies.

10. Ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and best practices governing fundraising activities and donor relations.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Services, Social Work, Education, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in fundraising, development, or advancement roles, ideally within a non-profit environment.

- At least three (3) years of experience in a senior leadership capacity.

- Proven success in leading fundraising campaigns and achieving revenue targets for organizations with budgets ranging from $10MM to $15MM.

- Strong strategic planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster relationships and effectively engage diverse stakeholders.

- Experience in managing and mentoring a team of fundraising professionals.

- Demonstrated success in budget management and financial oversight.

- Knowledge of fundraising best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.

- Familiarity with CRM systems and fundraising software, particularly Blackbaud Razors Edge NXT.

- A strong commitment to the organization’s mission and values.

- Ability to operate in both strategic and tactical capacities.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, and other virtual meeting platforms.

- A proactive self-starter, enthusiastic about developing and implementing new initiatives, and skilled at driving organizational change and building consensus.

- Culturally competent with experience working with diverse populations and perspectives.

- Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
