Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Operating Room Technician to join our team at Long Island Community Hospital. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Safe and Reliable Patient Care
    • Ensure aseptic and sterile environment for patients and staff
    • Follow policy and procedure for proper OR attire
    • Check integrity and expiration dates of sterile supplies
    • Use aseptic technique when scrubbing, gowning, and gloving
    • Initiate corrective actions when breaks in sterile field occur
  • Support Surgical Team
    • Assist surgeons with instrumentation and supplies
    • Hold retractors and anticipate surgical needs
    • Clean, stock, and maintain instrumentation and supplies
  • Maintain a Safe and Efficient Environment
    • Follow Universal Precautions at all times
    • Contain and dispose of contaminated items
    • Dispose of sharps appropriately
    • Use Personal Protective Equipment
    • Assemble equipment prior to procedures
    • Check equipment for proper functioning
  • Communicate Effectively
    • Communicate effectively with surgical team and patients
    • Provide compassionate and understanding care to patients and families
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists
  • Certified Surgical Technologist credential
  • Ability to lift equipment/supplies up to 30# on a daily basis
  • Ability to stand for 70% to 90% per day
  • Dexterous with fine or intricate instruments
  • Ability to prioritize, anticipate, and alter activities throughout the day
  • Mature interpersonal skills
  • Ability to cope with frequent risk of exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Ability to cope with environmental risks related to chemicals and steam
  • Current BLS certification
