Job Overview

Role Summary:

The Senior Manager of Estate and Trust Taxation plays a crucial role in ensuring the precise, thorough, and timely evaluation of tax returns and client communications for all clients. This position requires advanced expertise in various tax and accounting disciplines, coupled with strong management and supervisory capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conducts comprehensive technical reviews and approvals of tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates, and related entities to guarantee compliance with tax regulations.

2. Takes full ownership of complex tax returns while effectively delegating tasks to team members as necessary.

3. Oversees and executes tax research initiatives to deliver accurate and efficient outcomes.

4. Actively engages in client consultations and tax strategy discussions, including wealth transfer and estate planning, to support the Audit and Client Services teams.

5. Serves as a resource for tax and audit personnel, providing training and addressing specific tax-related inquiries.

6. Communicates significant tax developments and changes to relevant firm staff that may impact clients.

7. Manages governmental tax audits and may represent clients before tax authorities.

8. Understands the qualifications of tax staff members and assigns tasks based on their skills and project needs.

9. Aims to enhance team capabilities by participating in recruitment, performance assessments, and developing training materials, while also mentoring staff in professional growth.

10. Ensures a seamless process for tax return preparation, maintaining accuracy and timeliness in delivering clients' tax returns.

11. Possesses in-depth knowledge of the firm's principles and perspectives on tax matters.

12. Stays informed about economic and political trends, including tax legislation that could influence the business environment.

13. Contributes to the firm's marketing initiatives through engagement with referral sources and participation in community and industry events.

14. Demonstrates technical proficiency in international tax matters and relevant forms.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares reports and projects as requested by firm partners.
  2. Researches and assesses tax preparation and research software for partner recommendations.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; a Master's degree in taxation is preferred.
  • 6-12 years of public accounting experience with increasing complexity in estate and gift tax returns, along with management skills.
  • A minimum of forty hours of continuing education annually to maintain and enhance technical and business competencies, as well as to meet licensing requirements.
  • Regular participation in career development programs to improve managerial and interpersonal skills is essential.

Licenses and Skills:

A valid CPA license is mandatory, and membership in good standing with the AICPA is required. Proficiency in tax preparation, research, and planning software is essential.
