Position Overview

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM), a prominent accounting and business advisory firm, is on the lookout for a committed senior tax consultant with a minimum of three years of experience in public accounting and taxation. This role primarily focuses on tax engagements and compilation/review services for our clientele.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee tax-related processes and manage the team effectively.
  • Prepare and review personal and corporate tax returns, including complex cases.
  • Approve all returns, with exceptions for specialized issues requiring additional expertise.
  • Review tax accruals and related documentation.
  • Ensure the efficient flow of tax return processes.
  • Act as the primary contact for various clients and engagements.
  • Discuss and bill fees with clients transparently.
  • Prepare BNA projections and engage in planning for complex client scenarios.
  • Participate in tax planning for simpler client situations.
  • Analyze IRS notices and draft appropriate responses.
  • Review IRS notice responses crafted by other tax personnel.
  • Represent clients in dealings with the IRS.
  • Communicate tax developments to the firm effectively.
  • Conduct advanced tax research and oversee research projects conducted by others.
  • Assist accounting and auditing teams during client meetings.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the work of tax staff, senior tax accountants, and supervisors.
  • Engage in administrative projects within the tax department.
  • Collaborate with directors to set standards for tax staff and provide guidance.
  • Serve as a resource for tax staff and management.
  • Contribute to the client service team by delivering high-quality work promptly.
  • Foster strong working relationships with all directors and staff members.
  • Exhibit initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Showcase industry expertise.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of tax department personnel.
  • Adopt an entrepreneurial approach to client service and build rapport with client personnel.
  • Maintain professional contacts and develop a network of business relationships.
  • Write articles and deliver presentations.
  • Stay informed about economic, political, and business conditions.
  • Engage in volunteer opportunities within community organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (preferably a law degree or a master's in taxation) is highly desirable.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant public accounting, tax, and review experience.
  • At least two years of management experience with the ability to lead and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in tax software programs and computer applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize tasks effectively.
