Job Overview

The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with disabilities to achieve their personal goals within both home and community environments. This position serves as a representative of Impact Community Services in various external contexts, significantly shaping public perception of the organization. The role also includes providing backup support for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) and offering administrative assistance to the management team as necessary.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct assistance to individuals with disabilities in a residential environment to ensure their goals are met.
  • Support daily living activities, including household tasks, meal preparation, recreational and educational activities, and fitness routines.
  • Accompany individuals on errands, providing necessary support to help them complete tasks.
  • Advocate for the needs and interests of individuals served by the program.
  • Contribute to program planning by providing insights and recommendations for individual support.
  • Ensure all documentation related to care and incidents is completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and relevant laws.
  • Foster effective communication and collaborative relationships with staff, families, and the community.
  • Participate in required training sessions related to DSP and residential care.
  • Be available for on-call duties to address various situations that may arise, including emergencies and staff absences.
  • Perform general clerical tasks such as photocopying, filing, and scanning.

The ideal candidate will possess strong observational skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with individuals, community members, and staff. They should demonstrate analytical skills to identify issues and propose solutions, along with a solid understanding of intellectual disabilities and associated health and behavioral concerns. A caring demeanor and a positive attitude are essential, as is experience in conducting assessments and familiarity with documentation practices. Successful candidates must complete training in CPR, first aid, behavior management, and medication administration, as well as pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least one year of paid experience in providing guidance, development, and direct supervision in a care setting.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are mandatory.
  • Employees and contractors of Impact Community Services, LLC are expected to:
  1. Understand and comply with relevant regulations, ensuring individuals are aware of their rights.
  2. Safeguard individuals from abuse, neglect, and exploitation by adhering to ethical standards and reporting any suspected incidents.
  3. Cooperate with investigations and provide necessary statements or testimony as required.
  4. Fulfill any additional duties mandated by regulations.
