Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Human Resources Specialist I to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of human resources within the organization. This includes recruitment and hiring, HR-related transactions, payroll responsibilities, licensing, compliance, and tracking, as well as department administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of human resources within the department, including recruitment and hiring, HR-related transactions, payroll responsibilities, and department administrative responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and execute the recruitment and hiring processes, including posting positions, drafting offer letters, and conducting background checks.
  • Process human resource transactions in our HR system, including lump sum payments, additional pay, leave of absence requests, and terminations.
  • Manage time entry for the department and work with supervisors to ensure employees' time is approved in a timely manner.
  • Track faculty leave requests and approvals and obtain proper time approval documentation for personnel files.
  • Review the bi-weekly preliminary and final payroll lists for the department and follow up with employees to ensure leave requests and entries are submitted/entered immediately.
  • Train new employees on the time reporting system, department, and organizational policies, and train new supervisors on the time approval system and associate policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records, including personnel files, time approval records, and payroll records.
  • Provide guidance and support to the department chair, faculty, staff, and students regarding human resources policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal, state, organizational, and departmental regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point person for all human resources functions for the department, including recruitment, hiring, and payroll.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, as well as our HR system.
  • Previous HR experience, strong written and verbal organization and communication skills, and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
