Position Summary

The Technical Lead Molecular Technologist (Saturday - Tuesday 2:00pm - 12:30am) plays a crucial role in executing advanced molecular and operational tasks within a dynamic and intricate environment. This position also entails supervising laboratory personnel during the supervisor's absence. The complexity of the role demands exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, multitasking abilities, flexibility in scheduling, and a commitment to quality control and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing patient samples utilizing molecular biology methodologies in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Extracting nucleic acids from various sample types, including human tissue, blood, and saliva.
  • Constructing DNA/RNA libraries and conducting next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Operating automated liquid handling systems.
  • Independently determining methods and procedures for new assignments.
  • Providing oversight and guidance to junior staff; stepping in as supervisor when necessary.
  • Leading cross-functional initiatives to identify and resolve complex process challenges; analyzing data from SOPs, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and other relevant sources.
  • Coordinating troubleshooting efforts to identify root causes of issues, assessing their impact on samples and reagents.
  • Reviewing patient and control data, documenting findings in accordance with laboratory quality protocols; identifying trends and proposing solutions.
  • Maintaining adequate inventory levels of laboratory supplies and collaborating with supply chain teams to address shortages.
  • Leading training initiatives and ensuring all training documentation is completed; providing feedback to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshooting complex instrumentation issues and determining their impact on laboratory operations.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of SOPs.
  • Documenting activities and results in LIMS and relevant worksheets.
  • Performing environmental health and safety functions as required.
  • Acting as a point of contact for temperature monitoring systems to ensure specimen integrity.
  • Demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot automation issues effectively.
  • Exhibiting strong communication skills and maintaining open lines of communication with colleagues and management.

  • Maintaining regular and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in molecular laboratory techniques, including PCR, library construction for NGS, and sequencing.
  • Strong knowledge of critical laboratory instruments and their operational principles.
  • Technical expertise in basic molecular or microbiology techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Possession of relevant certifications (e.g., MB (ASCP) or MT/MLS (ASCP)).

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $74,000 to $118,000 annually. This role is also eligible for bonuses and company stock options.
