Position Summary

The Molecular Technologist II (Sun - Thurs 9:00am - 5:30pm) plays a crucial role in executing complex laboratory analyses on patient samples, which includes the extraction of nucleic acids and next-generation sequencing (NGS) along with all related processes. The intricate nature of this role demands exceptional attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, adaptability in scheduling, independent work capabilities within a collaborative environment, and strict adherence to quality control and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing patient specimens utilizing molecular biology techniques as outlined in standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Isolating nucleic acids from various sample types, including human tissue, blood, and saliva.
  • Constructing DNA/RNA libraries and performing NGS.
  • Operating automated liquid handling systems.
  • Identifying and resolving moderate sample or plate discrepancies by analyzing data from SOPs, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and instrument files; recognizing patterns and anomalies in samples and controls.
  • Reviewing patient and control data, documenting findings in accordance with laboratory quality protocols; identifying and reporting trends or irregularities; providing insights and solutions.
  • Maintaining adequate inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations; collaborating with supply chain teams to ensure availability of point-of-use (POU) materials.
  • Contributing to training initiatives; developing and delivering training resources.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshooting moderate equipment issues and restoring automated processes.
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of SOPs.
  • Documenting activities and results in the LIMS and associated worksheets.
  • Performing environmental health and safety duties as required.
  • Acting as a liaison for temperature monitoring systems and responding to ensure the integrity of specimens and reagents as necessary.
  • Integrating and applying feedback in a professional manner.
  • Prioritizing tasks and driving results with a strong focus on quality.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Utilizing strong communication skills to maintain open dialogue with colleagues and management.

  • Employing computer skills to analyze and interpret data.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and equipment with moving parts, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  • Using various laboratory instruments, including next-generation sequencing devices, liquid handling robotics, and biosafety cabinets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a related field as specified in the essential duties.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
  • Proficient understanding of laboratory concepts, applications, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Technical proficiency in fundamental molecular or microbiology techniques and associated equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated capability to fulfill the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, library preparation for NGS, and sequencing.

Compensation:

$50,000 - $81,000.00. The annual base salary indicated is for this position on a full-time basis. This role is also eligible for bonuses and company stock options upon hire and annually.
