Position Summary

The Molecular Technologist II (Sun - Thurs 9:00am - 5:30pm) plays a crucial role in executing complex laboratory analyses on patient samples, which includes the extraction of nucleic acids and next-generation sequencing (NGS) along with all related processes. The intricate nature of this role demands exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, flexibility in scheduling, and a commitment to quality control and compliance with laboratory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting the processing of patient specimens utilizing molecular biology techniques as per established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Isolating nucleic acids from various sample types, including human tissue, blood, and saliva.
  • Building DNA/RNA libraries and performing NGS.
  • Operating automated liquid handling systems.
  • Identifying and resolving moderate sample or plate discrepancies by analyzing data from SOPs, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and other data management tools; recognizing trends and shifts in sample and control data.
  • Reviewing patient and control data, documenting findings in accordance with laboratory quality protocols; identifying and reporting any anomalies or trends, and proposing solutions.
  • Ensuring adequate inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations and collaborating with supply chain teams to manage point of use (POU) supplies.
  • Contributing to training initiatives by developing and providing training materials.
  • Performing routine maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshooting moderate equipment issues and restoring automated processes.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of SOPs.
  • Documenting all activities and results in the LIMS and relevant worksheets.
  • Executing environmental health and safety responsibilities as required.
  • Acting as a contact for temperature monitoring systems and responding to ensure the integrity of specimens and reagents.
  • Integrating and applying feedback professionally.
  • Prioritizing tasks effectively and striving for high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborating as part of a team.
  • Utilizing strong communication skills to maintain open dialogue with colleagues and management.
  • Exhibiting a keen attention to detail with a strong focus on quality.

  • Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Being available to work nights or weekends as necessary.
  • Utilizing mobile devices or computers for approximately 20% of the workday.
  • Working in a seated position for about 20% and standing for around 80% of the workday.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds for about 5% of the workday.
  • Complying with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Performing repetitive tasks using laboratory tools, including pipettes.
  • Handling various chemicals in the course of duties.
  • Using computers to analyze data and maintain focus.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and equipment with moving parts, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  • Utilizing diverse laboratory equipment, including next-generation sequencing instruments, liquid handling robotics, and biosafety cabinets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory concepts, applications, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular or microbiology techniques and associated equipment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Proven ability to fulfill the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with molecular laboratory techniques, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), library preparation for NGS, and sequencing.

Compensation:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $50,000 to $81,000. This role is eligible for bonuses and company stock upon hire and annually.
