Job Summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapist III to join our team. As a key member of our rehabilitation services, you will provide clinical services to our patient population, demonstrating superior patient care and outstanding communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide physical therapy treatment programs for inpatients and outpatients, including evaluation, treatment, and prevention of disability, injury, disease, or other conditions of health.
  • Coordinate physical therapy programs with other healthcare personnel, such as occupational therapy and nursing.
  • Direct and aid patients in gait training, isokinetic exercise, posture training, therapeutic exercise, joint protection, desensitization, edema control, muscle sensory reduction, and home program.
  • Construct and/or supply splinting, adaptive, and exercise equipment.
  • Direct and train patients in the care and use of assistive devices, prosthetic, and orthotic devices, including wheelchairs, canes, and crutches.
  • Evaluate, record, and report patient progress for other members of the rehabilitation team.
  • Participate in patient care evaluation studies.
  • Will participate in training of students in Physical Therapy from the Physical Therapy Program of the Stony Brook's School of Allied Health Professions as well as physical therapy students and physical therapist assistant students of other affiliated programs.
  • Participate in weekend and holiday patient care on a rotational basis.

This is an inpatient acute care position. Experience and interest in treating CVA, Trauma, Pediatric, and Orthopedic patients preferred. Must be able to work 2 weekend days per month.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or Certificate in Physical Therapy from an approved and accredited institution. New York State Physical Therapy Licensure/Registration or eligible. NYS License must be obtained within one year of employment.

Preferred: For Pediatric Care: Demonstrated pediatric clinical experience. For Hand Rehabilitation: Demonstrated hand therapy experience.

This function/position may be designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital, and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

PER DIEM

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $67.63/hr.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
