The Department of Revenue is seeking a Tax Compliance Auditor to join our Personal Tax & Compliance Division. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of tax processes and ensuring compliance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties represent a portion of the responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Review tax returns that align with the operational objectives of the department.
  • Conduct audits through various methods, including in-person, virtual, and correspondence, to accurately assess tax adjustments based on individual income tax returns.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit documentation and reports, ensuring accurate data entry into the agency's systems.
  • Advocate for the department's audit findings during the appeals process, including written objections and conferences.
  • Utilize investigative techniques to identify individuals or entities that may not be fulfilling their tax obligations and refer them to appropriate agency departments.
Qualifications Required

To qualify for the Tax Compliance Auditor position, candidates must possess:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in areas such as tax preparation, auditing, or professional accounting, specifically related to Oregon tax regulations or similar tax structures.
  • One of the following educational qualifications:
    • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline; or
    • 30 quarter hours (20 semester hours) in accounting or finance, including coursework in technical writing and Excel, accompanied by two years of relevant experience.
