ROLE SUMMARY
As a Fire Alarm Design Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to develop fire alarm systems for buildings by carefully selecting the right mix of hardware, software, equipment, materials, and services from our extensive product and application portfolio. Your goal will be to deliver maximum value to clients while aligning with their overall business objectives.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional operational expertise. This role requires you to be the principal technical resource within the organization, providing support for various projects and retrofits. A strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction is essential. You should be capable of conveying technical concepts and solutions effectively to both internal and external stakeholders, which includes conducting site assessments, thoroughly reviewing customer specifications, and identifying opportunities, risks, and necessary resources to achieve success throughout the proposal process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support project managers in the successful delivery of projects, including financial management, scheduling, and adherence to contractual obligations.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of professionals across various disciplines.
- Assist with pricing for change orders related to out-of-scope items and suggest enhancements.
- Provide forecasting assistance for project labor requirements.
- Coordinate activities with internal teams, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Maintain project updates for project managers.
- Participate in job meetings as directed by project managers.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or 5 years of hands-on experience in fire alarm systems, including design and/or installation.
- Relevant certifications and/or programming experience with: EST-3, EST-4, or equivalent Fire Alarm Systems.
- Active NICET IV or PE certification, with the ability to stamp plans in MA.
- Proficient in fire alarm systems, including voice evacuation and mass notification.
- Familiarity with current NFPA, IFC, IBC, and other relevant codes pertaining to fire alarm systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Fire Alarm Design, and Programming is advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
- Skilled in understanding customer needs and providing cost-effective solutions.
- Experience using hand tools, test equipment, and digital multi-meters for troubleshooting purposes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, to meet project demands.
- Willingness to travel overnight as necessary.
