POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Healthcare Assistant II is a non-licensed professional with foundational training who undertakes essential administrative and clerical duties (front office) as well as routine medical tasks (back office) under the direct oversight of a licensed physician or designated mid-level providers in a clinical environment. This role involves supporting medical providers and may encompass tasks within the medical assistant's scope of practice, such as: preparing patients for examinations, gathering and documenting patient information including medications, height, weight, vital signs, pain levels, fall risk assessments, and ensuring readiness for clinician evaluation. The Healthcare Assistant will frequently perform tasks such as applying and removing dressings, administering injections, conducting lab draws, and other related procedures. Additionally, the Healthcare Assistant II working at the Cancer Center will cater to the specific needs of the facility.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program OR an Associate's degree or higher in a clinical healthcare discipline (such as LVN, RN, Medical Technologist) with two years of back office medical experience.
- At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Prior experience in phlebotomy.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in front medical office roles, including reception, registration, scheduling, billing, and medical record management.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:
Current CPR certification is required.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Proficiency in blood draws and injection administration is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and the public. A foundational understanding of medical/technical procedures, knowledge of point-of-care laboratory equipment, and proficiency in clerical and computer skills for various medical office support functions are necessary. Sensitivity towards patients and their families while maintaining strict confidentiality is crucial. The ability to follow instructions, work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment, and possess strong analytical and grammatical skills for effective verbal and written communication is required. Organizational and multitasking abilities are vital.
