FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (with occasional evenings and weekends)

Role Purpose:

The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and delegating tasks to the grounds team concerning landscape design and upkeep. This role includes providing hands-on training and ensuring the safe operation of landscaping machinery, such as mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and sprayers. The Assistant Supervisor also conducts routine maintenance and repairs on landscaping equipment.

Essential Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of landscape design and maintenance practices.
  • Proficient in operating landscaping equipment, including mowers and weed eaters.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, utilizing various techniques to facilitate information flow and collaboration.
  • Capability to perform routine maintenance on landscaping machinery.
  • Ability to work autonomously and accomplish tasks without explicit direction.
  • Proven ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with staff and external stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in landscape design and maintenance.

Certification Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License with L and H endorsements.
  • Must complete training to obtain A endorsement for the North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License within six months of employment.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Class A) as per North Carolina regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a landscape-related field.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and allocate tasks to skilled craftsmen based on work orders related to landscape needs, providing on-the-job training to the landscaping team.
  2. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a secure working environment.
  3. Address assigned work orders for landscape maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and executing necessary tasks.
  4. Apply treatments and perform pruning to manage weeds and pests, selecting appropriate materials and methods.
  5. Safely operate landscaping equipment and conduct routine maintenance and repairs.
  6. Ensure proper handling, storage, and application of hazardous materials and chemicals.
  7. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work settings. The role requires the use of standard office and landscaping equipment, including computers and various landscaping tools. The job may involve physical labor, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and exposure to various environmental conditions.
