Position Overview

The Certified Medication Assistant is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents requiring assistance, adhering to state regulations and guidelines for safe medication delivery. This role involves observing residents during medication intake, noting any effects, including unexpected or adverse reactions, and accurately documenting necessary information in the residents' medication administration records. The Medication Assistant will also communicate any concerns or observations to the Wellness Director, Wellness Coordinator, or designated personnel. Additionally, this position supports residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, social engagement, cognitive support, and physical health maintenance. The role emphasizes encouraging resident independence, respecting resident choices, and maintaining dignity through professional interactions.

Key Success Factors

  • Completion of medication assistance training in accordance with state regulatory standards and facility protocols.
  • Maintaining current medication certification as per state regulations.
  • Demonstrating compassion and empathy in all interactions.
  • Exhibiting effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Being self-supervising and self-motivated while collaborating effectively as a team member.
  • Showing adaptability and flexibility; possessing strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks concurrently and demonstrating problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous direct care experience is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Current certification as a CMA is mandatory.
  • Must meet age requirements as per facility policy and state regulations.
