Position Overview

The Certified Medication Assistant is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents requiring assistance, in compliance with state regulations and guidelines for safe medication administration. This role involves observing residents during medication intake, documenting any effects—both expected and unexpected—and communicating any concerns to the appropriate personnel, including the Wellness Director or Wellness Coordinator. Additionally, the Medication Assistant aids residents with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, social engagement, cognitive support, and overall physical health. This position promotes resident independence, respects individual choices, and upholds resident dignity through professional interactions.

Key Success Factors

  • Completion of medication assistance training in accordance with state and facility regulations.
  • Maintaining current medication certification as per state requirements.
  • Demonstrating compassion and empathy in all interactions.
  • Exhibiting strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Being self-supervising and self-motivated, while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Possessing adaptability and flexibility, with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in direct care is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Current CMA certification is mandatory.
  • Compliance with age requirements as per facility policy and state regulations.
