Biomedical Equipment Specialist II/III

Position Summary: The Biomedical Equipment Technician II/III is responsible for the repair, calibration, and upkeep of various clinical technology devices, instruments, and systems. This role involves inspecting, installing, and performing preventative maintenance on general clinical equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect a wide array of therapeutic and diagnostic biomedical instruments and equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and electrical safety evaluations of clinical devices and systems.
- Diagnose and rectify system and equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation regarding new and rental equipment, inspections, and repair activities.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party repair services as required.
- Provide technical guidance and training on equipment operation and maintenance to staff.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Supervision: This position operates under the close supervision of the Senior Manager, Biomedical Services or another designated manager.
Collaboration: The individual will foster positive relationships with colleagues, nursing and medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the public. Participation in meetings, seminars, training sessions, and workshops is expected, along with the potential to deliver technical in-service education sessions.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in biomedical equipment technology is preferred, along with two or more years of experience in medical equipment repair and maintenance within a healthcare environment. A CBET certification is advantageous. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with departmental policies, procedures, and standards, as well as proficiency in general applications such as email, database management, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment, maneuver equipment carts, and perform physical tasks such as kneeling, standing, bending, and reaching during repairs.
- Understanding of electronic theory, technology, and testing equipment.
- Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as it relates to biomedical equipment usage.
- Awareness of color code conventions used in component and wiring markings.
- Capability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical devices.
- Ability to conduct preventive maintenance inspections and run diagnostic programs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.
- Willingness to travel within a designated territory.
- Proficiency in testing electronic equipment and possessing manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and color vision.
Working Conditions: Generally favorable working conditions exist, although potential hazards include exposure to electrical shock, ionizing radiation, chemicals, high-pressure air, infectious diseases, and other risks associated with biomedical engineering. Adherence to safety protocols and the use of protective clothing are mandatory.
