Under the general oversight of the Director of Parking & Transportation, the Campus Community Engagement Officer is responsible for providing essential support to the University Police Department and the institution as a whole. This role often represents the first point of contact for visitors and plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Safety and Visitor Assistance:
- Act as a representative of the University Police and Parking and Transportation services, offering directions and general information to campus visitors.
- Conduct regular patrols of campus grounds on foot, bicycle, or golf cart to safeguard the campus community and its visitors from potential hazards, including theft and vandalism, while documenting incidents as necessary.
- Manage the opening, closing, and securing of campus facilities, including the operation and testing of alarm systems.
- Follow the University Police department's protocols for lost and found items, which includes completing necessary reports and maintaining accurate records.
- Provide safety escorts on foot, bicycle, or golf cart as needed.
- Assist motorists with services such as battery jumps and vehicle unlocks for those parked on campus.
- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during busy periods, utilizing traffic control devices to ensure smooth operations during events and emergencies.
- Collaborate with ITS staff to perform routine testing of campus emergency communication systems.
Parking Enforcement Duties:
- Support Parking and Transportation services by enforcing parking regulations, patrolling parking areas, and issuing citations for violations using electronic devices.
- Assist in the collection of cash from parking machines for deposit purposes.
Administrative and Training Functions:
- Occasionally assist with general office tasks, which may include filing, writing reports, or answering inquiries.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, along with three to six months of relevant experience.
Required Skills:
- Familiarity with procedures and regulations related to campus security and public safety.
- Knowledge of alarm systems and communication devices.
- Ability to identify and respond to potential safety hazards or criminal activities.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Capability to address parking and traffic concerns effectively.
- Proficient in writing clear and concise incident reports.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse range of individuals.
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of public safety equipment and systems.
- Experience in parking management or security services.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $3,505 - $3,680.25 per month, with potential for higher compensation based on experience and internal equity.
The CSU system offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, participation in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), paid sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays annually. Eligible employees may also participate in the fee waiver education program.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary position with a schedule that may vary, including weekdays and potential weekend or evening shifts.
