About the Role

The University of New Haven is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our facilities team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks on our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled trade work including installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, service, and repair of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, and structural systems.
  • Interpret building and safety codes, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Monitor the operating status of campus equipment and respond to alarms.
  • Respond to facilities department issues and identify the need for additional resources.
  • Diagnose equipment and building system malfunctions and take independent action to resolve and perform required repairs.
  • Communicate and document the status of assigned work orders and projects.
  • Develop and perform preventative maintenance on university buildings, equipment, and tools.
Requirements
  • A minimum of two years of general maintenance mechanic work experience.
  • Ability to drive and hold a valid CT state driver's license.
  • Strong working knowledge of all types of residential and commercial building systems and equipment.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets, instructions, manuals, signs, posters, and product labels.
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to respond in a professional, courteous, timely, and effective manner to internal and external customers.
