Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Edinburg Independent School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
  • Serve as health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care as needed.
  • Coordinate management systems to administer medications to students at school, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Education Agency, and district policy.
  • Make referrals as necessary, developing individual health plans and emergency care plans for students with complex health needs.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of the campus health program, making recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Current registered nurse licensed to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nursing.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision and hearing screening.
  • Certified by the UTRGV Border Health Office to conduct the Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 diabetes.
  • CPR/AED Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of nursing experience recommended.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community medical, health care services, and referral resources.

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, teachers, parents, and medical professionals. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
