Automation Systems Engineer

As an Automation Systems Engineer at LyondellBasell, you will play a critical role in optimizing our industrial processes. Your primary responsibility will be to provide primary optimization support to improve the Process Control Systems controlling our operating units.

This includes working across multi-disciplined teams, managing complex and highly technical DCS/APC systems, and driving continuous improvement in an industrial process environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the lifecycle of PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems to ensure system reliability
  • Developing Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans and associated maintenance procedures, guidelines, or work instructions
  • Supporting the development of Obsolescence and Long-Range plans, which includes identifying bad-actor equipment and developing mitigation plans
  • Developing and forecasting spending plans in the annual Maintenance budget
  • Supporting capital project organization in developing scope, participating in detailed design, conducting factory-acceptance and site-acceptance tests, and supporting all phases of capital project execution
  • Supporting the programming of PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems
  • Enforcing the application of corporate, industry, and company standards and procedures
  • Providing technical support to crafts, operations, and engineering teams on technical requirements and issues with PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems
  • Supporting the Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Participating as a critical team member on process control migrations, upgrades, and Turnaround (TAR) projects
  • Supporting cybersecurity implementation and maintenance initiatives

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Understanding of Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC systems
  • Understanding of Emerson DeltaV SIS and Triconex SIS
  • Understanding of Emerson MHM, Prognost, and Bentley Nevada condition monitoring systems

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Electrical preferred)
  • Minimum of five years engineering experience, with three of those years of experience supporting industrial control systems
  • CFSE certification preferred
