Job Title: Community Development Specialist

The City of New York is seeking a Community Development Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our community development portfolio, you will serve as a liaison to our Neighborhood Safety Councils (NSCs) and help promote efforts to advance community development and public safety throughout the city.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting outreach to build awareness and cultivate community leaders who will engage constructively with our department.
  • Coordinating and attending NSC meetings to ensure they are well-attended and occur on a routine basis.
  • Maintaining records of activity for the NSC and other relevant meetings using our electronic database.
  • Providing technical expertise to NSC members and workgroup participants to bolster their proficiency in board governance and Results Oriented Management and Accountability practices.
  • Liaising with local community groups, community boards, and elected officials' offices to raise awareness and assist in determining service needs through the implementation of the periodic Community Needs Assessment.

Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities.
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities.
