Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Educational Specialist II - Literacy to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. This is a full-time position that will play a critical role in supporting K-8 literacy efforts within our district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for English Language Arts.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing professional development around best practices in K-8 literacy, with a focus on grades 3-8.
  • Support the implementation of district curriculum and assessments for grades K-8.
  • Use data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and schools in the district.
  • Develop and provide appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders on best practices in literacy, with a focus on grades 3-8.
  • Work collaboratively with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
  • Stay up to date on current research and best practices in the area of elementary literacy content and pedagogy.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience in literacy, with a preference for upper elementary and middle grades experience.
  • Three years of experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers to support implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for English Language Arts.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of current research in literacy best practices.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for English Language Arts.
  • A commitment to educational equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications, including Microsoft Office, PD tracking and reporting software, databases, and online professional learning software.
