Electronics Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and fabricating complex electronic assemblies for critical national programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop process plans and technical capabilities to build electronic hardware for spacecraft
  • Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to design and fabricate complex electronic assemblies
  • Lead the hardware development through the surface mount electronics fabrication and microelectronics assembly fabrication area
  • Serve as the manufacturing expert as part of a team designing and fabricating complex electronic assemblies
  • Responsible for the manufacturing outcomes for the hardware in your assigned subsystem
Requirements:
  • Hold a BS Degree or equivalent in a technical field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience
  • Have 3+ years of increasingly responsible work in an electronics manufacturing environment, particularly in a high mix, low volume SMT facility
  • Have experience working with microelectronic assemblies and providing guidance and process improvements for such assemblies
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can work in a collaborative environment with partners
  • Have proven process development and improvement skills with knowledge of solder joint characteristics and SMT processing tools and the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building electronic hardware for spacecraft
  • Experience with IPC J-STD-001F
  • Have 5+ years of experience with microelectronics assemblies
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE)
  • Exposure to manufacturing resource planning (MRP) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems
  • Basic programming skills
