Electronics Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics & Microelectronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing complex electronic assemblies for critical national programs.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop process plans and technical capabilities to build electronic hardware for spacecraft and national security applications.
- Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to design and fabricate complex electronic assemblies.
- Lead the hardware development through the surface mount electronics fabrication and microelectronics assembly fabrication area.
- Serve as the manufacturing expert and provide guidance to fabrication technicians in the electronic and microelectronic assembly areas.
- Develop and implement processes to optimize the speed and reliability of surface mount technology (SMT) and mixed technology assemblies.
- BS Degree or equivalent in a technical field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of increasingly responsible work in an electronics manufacturing environment, particularly in a high mix, low volume SMT facility.
- Experience working with microelectronic assemblies and providing guidance and process improvements for such assemblies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with partners.
- Proven process development and improvement skills with knowledge of solder joint characteristics and SMT processing tools and materials.
- Experience building electronic hardware for spacecraft.
- Experience with IPC J-STD-001FS.
- 5+ years of experience with microelectronics assemblies.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
- Exposure to manufacturing resource planning (MRP) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems.
- Basic programming skills.
