Respiratory Therapist Pediatric Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, interpret, and review clinical data to develop and implement effective respiratory care plans.
- Participate in the development of the plan of care and provide medically prescribed respiratory therapy services to patients.
- Assess patient respiratory care needs and develop/evaluate a therapeutic/diagnostic plan.
- Perform respiratory therapy/diagnostic procedures according to established guidelines.
- Document patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines.
- Communicate patient responses to respiratory therapy interventions/diagnostic procedures and recommend modifications to the patient care plan.
- Perform equipment quality control and participate in respiratory therapy professional activities and continuing education.
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required.
- Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required except for new grads who must obtain.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
- NBRC Specialty credential - Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) or Sleep Disorders Specialty (SDS)/Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) - for area of primary practice within the University Medical Center Sleep Disorders or Pulmonary Function Centers required within 18 months of employment.
The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). The candidate must be proficient in communication, auditory, and visual skills, with attention to detail and ability to write legibly. The ability to lift/push/pull lbs is also required. The candidate may be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
