Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Inspector to join our team at the City of Grand Rapids, MI. As a Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Municipal, State, and National codes and identifying defects and potential hazards in mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect mechanical installations to verify compliance with relevant codes and regulations
  • Schedule and conduct inspections, respond to questions and complaints from the public and contractors
  • Issue corrective orders and written violation notices to contractors and property owners
  • Review plans for equipment installations and issue permits as necessary
  • Consult with contractors, architects, engineers, and other city departments on code requirements and design standards
  • Prepare and administer licensing exams, issue licenses, and maintain records of inspection activities
  • Abate hazardous conditions and issue violation/shut-off notices as necessary
  • Attend code update meetings for continuing education and stay up-to-date on industry developments
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least four (4) years of related work experience or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Possession of a mechanical license from the State of Michigan in three of the four categories (Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping, HVAC equipment, Refrigeration, Fire suppression) for at least one year immediately preceding application
