Job Summary

AIT is seeking a highly skilled Controls Technician to join our team. As a Controls Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support to production operators and maintaining, testing, and repairing electrical/electronic, PLC, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop proficiency in the operation of all automation system software/technology based on site location.
  • Provide operations technical support on PLCs, HMIs, and network interfaces throughout the manufacturing floor.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment including PLCs, HMIs, numerical controls, power supplies, drives, gages, test equipment, etc.
  • Service electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, fuses, and similar electronic devices.
  • Maintain and install communication cables, power distribution cables and wiring, and perform splicing as required.
  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theory and principles, written specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Receive wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications, and instructions, both verbally or in writing, concerning emergency and scheduled repair, installation, and inspection work to be performed.
  • Plan details of working procedures to determine material or replacement needs and determine a logical approach to repair problems.
  • Create a clear write-up and tie-in for any problems encountered, troubleshooting steps taken, corrective actions, root cause, and next steps.
  • Update and create documentation for training and knowledge transfer for the supported control systems.
  • Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with operation's requirements, company safety procedures, and OSHA requirements for machine activation and shutdown.
  • Promote and comply with good safety practices and habits, including but not limited to, use of all PPE.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Technician Certification or Associates degree in related field required.
  • Five or more years and/or equivalent experience preferred in PLC and HMI configuration and programming Control circuit analysis, design, troubleshooting, and solving software/hardware issues in an industrial high voltage electrical maintenance.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
  • Proficient computer experience/operation and PLC programming is necessary.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
  • This position may require a government security clearance; you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
Work Environment

The Controls Technician will work in a production and office environment with a standard work schedule, with overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions. The position involves frequent travel up to 75% of the time.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
