Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Education Planning: Collaborate with parents and department team members to prepare student education plans, ensuring a tailored approach to meet individual needs.
  • Learning Support: Provide individualized instruction and tutorial assistance to students with diverse learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Curriculum Design: Develop instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, promoting inclusive learning environments.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans that foster students' educational, physical, and social development.
  • Classroom Preparation: Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • IEP Coordination: Serve as the coordinator of individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff, ensuring seamless support for students.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of student's IEP, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentorship and Support: Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, promoting a culture of inclusivity and support.
  • Transition Support: Support students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills, ensuring a smooth transition to the next stage of their educational journey.
  • Assessment and Tracking: Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking student's performance and progress.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Discuss students' progress with their other teachers, promoting a collaborative approach to student support.
  • Relationship Building: Communicate effectively with students and their parents, maintaining positive relationships and fostering a sense of community.
  • Compliance and Professionalism: Follow School District policies and procedures, upholding professional standards of practice.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
  • Certifications: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred, Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Training and Certifications: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable, Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation), Must meet all federal, state and local requirements, Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site, Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication and Computer Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required, Computer proficiency required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
