Job Summary:

The University of Miami is seeking a skilled Biomedical Technician 2 to join its Clinical Engineering team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine tasks, including installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment.
  • Oversee recall and safety alert programs for medical devices, ensuring compliance with patient safety goals and applicable requirements.
  • Prioritize workload effectively and complete all work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate medical equipment documentation.
  • Order parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • Conduct cross-training in the techniques of testing, calibrating, operating, and troubleshooting biomedical systems.
  • Report and document all medical equipment operation errors and safety issues.
  • Maintain medical equipment technical library and update as necessary.
  • Supervise services provided by outside vendors to ensure quality and scope of services have been met.
  • Inspect incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience, or Military training in biomedical technician or equivalent, with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge, skills, and attitudes, including comprehensive understanding and communication of device use, provision of comprehensive support for acuity equipment, familiarity with operations and environment, and comprehensive experience in assigned clinical environment.
  • Equipment expertise, including working knowledge of clinical equipment, radiological, laboratory, and network medical systems.
  • Ability to learn from others, teach basic skills, and mentor others in basic skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge level and experienced in most or all facets of job, with intermediate level of expertise and ability to assist less experienced technicians.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure, meet deadlines, process and handle confidential information, work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary, and work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to use an equipment management program that meets current CMS, TJC, AHCA, and other AHJ requirements, knowledge of electrical safety theory, and ability to perform electrical safety testing on medical equipment.
  • Ability to manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including medical device hazard investigations, to assure compliance with patient safety goals, SMDA, and TJC requirements.
  • Knowledge of field's concepts, practices, and procedures, and intermediate computer skills/abilities.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
