POSITION SUMMARY:
To execute general maintenance and custodial responsibilities in the upkeep and sanitation of County-owned and operated facilities. This role involves performing related tasks as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Dust, sweep, mop, wax, and polish furniture and flooring.
  • Maintain cleanliness of restrooms.
  • Wash windows, walls, and woodwork.
  • Conduct minor repair tasks such as changing light bulbs, tightening screws, and painting.
  • Clean doors, desktops, and various surfaces.
  • Organize and relocate office equipment and furniture.
  • Operate vacuum cleaners, polishers, and other cleaning tools.
  • Collect and dispose of waste materials.
  • Clear walkways of debris, ice, and snow.
  • Perform lawn care including mowing and trimming.
  • Engage in light landscaping duties.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Director of Buildings Operations & Maintenance or designated representative.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
N/A

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of custodial experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of custodial methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with accepted cleaning techniques and equipment maintenance.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and basic mathematics; strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making in line with policies and procedures.
  • Capable of independent research and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of County operations and functions.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide friendly customer service.
  • Support the County's mission and values.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with management, colleagues, and clients.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful candidates must complete a satisfactory background check, which includes drug screening, physical examination, and verification of qualifications. A valid State of Michigan operator license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The physical demands of this position require the ability to lift objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds, hear and understand spoken information, read and interpret procedures and manuals, and communicate effectively. The role involves frequent physical activity including sitting, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Employees may be exposed to various working conditions and are required to follow universal precautions.
